Galaxy Toolbar for Google Chrome
« on: 04 June 2010, 09:19:21 »
Is it possible to implement a plugin for the GalaxyTool for the browser google chrome?

I ask, because OGame is much faster on google chrome than on the firefox browser and many peoples uses it, because of this advanatge.

Thank you in anticipation!

Possible - yes. Easy - no. Currently the toolbar uses some features which are unique to Firefox 3.*. It needs a serious rewrite to make it work on other browsers. The author isn't interested in doing it.

Old idea yeah, but it is a good idea :)

"The author isn't interested in doing it."
yes, but what if someone else would do the hard work?
i could really do it but the thing that i don't know is if i can do it XD

what i mean is regarding the licensing about galaxytool

Take a look at COGame, the author is currently implementing support for the Galaxytool.

Galaxyview (without activity) and Statistics already work with the current version.

I worked the last weekend on and I managed it (since rakyrs GalaxyChromebar hasn't been updated for a while and Caprica doesn't seem to work on on the Galaxytool support). :)

An AddOn for Google Chrome will be released soon. The coding part is completely done, I only let some people test it for some time (maybe one week) before we will release it to public.  :D

It will have all the features of the AddOn for Firefox, with one exception: there will be no button displayed in the Galaxytool to automatically add the settings from Galaxytool (v4.8 and up) into the Galaxytoolbar. All other things should work the same or at least similar (especially sending own fleet movements and all espionage reports will work via a button on the page, and not via context menu).

That's great news! Support for browsers other than Firefox is one of the questions about GT that I am most asked on the various forums.

Any chance of supporting Opera too? ;D

Well, I can't promise it, but I think, that it should be easy now, since I removed most of the browser dependant stuff. I only have to find out, how l18n of the AddOn and adding own images works in Opera.

This is great news, I contemplated doing the job myself but have found it hard to scrounge the time needed to convert the plugin. Does this new project have a name? Need any more testers?

No, I am quite sure that I don't need more testers. :) And about a name: I wanted to call it "Galaxytoolbar for Chrome". ;)

hi! that's great news.

however, i don't find any options menu to configure the extension in Chrome (ie, tell it where my galaxtytool lives, and these kind of details).

May it be that i'm looking in the wrong place?

thanks for your time and thanks for the port to chrome!
